5TH AVENUE SOUTH

DESCRIPTION

Despite wielding a near perfect band name for a group of arch ironists (really, how much further can you deconstruct rock and roll beyond exoticism, sex, and violence?) Tokyo Sex Destruction is serious about its love for '60s music and radical politics. On their 2004 album “Black Noise Is The New Sound!“, Tokyo Sex Destruction played at reckless tempos, with the guitar and the organ at dueling levels of distortion and volume both vying for supremacy.

With “5TH Avenue South“, Tokyo Sex Destruction reinvents themselves showing their maturity and diversity. They have moved beyond their direct MC5/ Sonics dichotomy to include some of the other pop elements of the '60s and 70‘s; especially the psychedelic movement. Besides the driving rhythms and power chords of songs like "One more Sunday" and "Prisoner of our ideas",  the band's initial love for soul elements seems to have pulled them towards a sense of Hendrix's more pop moments, and there's an undercurrent of the Animals and the Kinks that gives things a more melodic flavor.

Singer R.J. Sinclair's voice fits this new approach perfectly. One can imagine the sweat spraying from his lips as he shouts “F*** U“. And at the same time we get to know a more intimate side in songs like “LUV is the feeling“ or the semi-instrumental “Good Morning“, leaded by a shining sitar over a acoustic guitar base.

You get the idea? Tokyo Sex Destruction are defined by their middle name. Backed up by an orchestra of raucous percussion, handclaps, organs, female choruses and the wind section you can easily picture the “lock up your daughters” pelvis jerking that rock and rollers like Elvis and Mick Jagger perfected:

The band is sex by all means, both in sound and appearance!
